Why Vitamin D Matters

Vitamin D is a foundational nutrient with roles in mineral metabolism, skeletal health and normal immune function.

  • IMMUNE FUNCTION

Vitamin D is a core nutrient that helps support normal immune function.

  • CALCIUM & PHOSPHORUS

Helps in the absorption and use of calcium and phosphorus.

  • BONES & TEETH

Helps in the development and maintenance of bones and teeth.

The Sunshine Question

Vitamin D is unusual among essential nutrients because the body can produce it in the skin following exposure to sunlight. But this production is not constant. Season, latitude, time spent outdoors and other individual factors can all influence how much vitamin D the body is able to make.

  • Season

UVB availability changes throughout the year, particularly during the winter months.

  • Latitude

The angle of the sun affects how much UVB reaches the skin.

  • Time Outdoors

Indoor routines, clothing and limited sun exposure can reduce opportunities for vitamin D production.

  • Individual Factors

Age, skin pigmentation and other individual factors can influence vitamin D synthesis.

Why D3?

Vitamin D is available in two principal supplemental forms: vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). Both can increase vitamin D levels in the body, but research indicates that D3 generally raises circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D to a greater extent and can maintain those levels for longer.

  • Vitamin D2

    Ergocalciferol
A form of vitamin D used in supplements and fortified foods. It can raise circulating vitamin D levels.

  • Vitamin D3

    Cholecalciferol
The form selected by Promise Roots. Research generally finds D3 more effective at raising and maintaining circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels.

Form, source and delivery

A formulation begins with the form of the nutrient, where it comes from and how it is carried. Promise Roots Vitamin D3 uses cholecalciferol derived from lanolin, delivered in an oil based softgel with organic MCT oil.

  • FORM

    Cholecalciferol
Vitamin D3, the form selected for this formulation.

  • SOURCE

    Lanolin
Vitamin D3 in this formulation is derived from lanolin.

  • CARRIER

    Organic MCT Oil
An oil-based carrier selected for this fat-soluble nutrient.

Two Essentials. One System.

Vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 are distinct nutrients with complementary roles in calcium metabolism. Vitamin D supports the absorption and use of calcium, while vitamin K contributes to the maintenance of bones. Promise Roots considers them individually, and together as part of a broader nutritional system.

The Promise Roots Standard

Our standard is simple: make only the claims we can support, and be clear about the materials, specifications and documentation behind each formulation.
